The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency (SCA) is a provincial healthcare organization with a vision to see a healthy population free from cancer. SCA provides leadership in health promotion, early detection, treatment and research for cancer.
Nearly 1,000 dedicated SCA staff work together to provide high quality, safe and supportive patient and family-centered care at two cancer centres in Regina and Saskatoon, as well as in rural communities in partnership with hospitals through the Community Oncology Program of Saskatchewan. The Cancer Agency also manages two patient lodges in Regina and Saskatoon to provide a home away from home for rural patients, so they do not have to travel long distances for treatment.
SCA Radiation Oncology programs include:
- All standard External Beam Radiation Treatments (EBRT), Gynecological Intracavitary Brachytherapy program, Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) program for Lung, Bone, Spine, and Lymph nodes, and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) for Intracranial Lesions;
- Other programs catering to the whole province include Prostate Brachytherapy and Gynecological Interstitial Brachytherapy;
- More programs are currently in development, including Liver, Pancreas, and Renal Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy. These programs are expected to become fully established by 2026.
Malignant Hematology and General Hematology programs catering to the whole province include:
- Both Allogeneic and Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant programs
- CAR-T cell treatment;
- Bleeding disorder program;
- Cancer Associated Thrombosis program; and
- Monoclonal Gammopathies management program.
In the past 4 years, we moved to Disease Site Specific Clinic model, which created all four major sites (Breast, Prostate, Genitourinary, Gastrointestinal) and other minor sites. Each site has provincial chair and Multidisciplinary Tumor rounds.
The Cancer Agency also operates prevention and early detection programs, including screening programs for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers to help detect cancer in its earliest stages. Finally, the SCA is proud to conduct innovative research performed by world-class scientists and researchers who provide laboratory, epidemiological and clinical research, including clinical trials.
